Name : Teo Kean Hui
Student ID : 0310165
Course : Bachelor of Science (Hons) (Architecture) March Intake 2013
Lecturer : Mr. Adib Ramli

Project 1: Shape Grammar Inspired by Nature and Surrounding.

This is an individual project consist of 4 exercises which given after every lecture.

Exercise 1A and 1B: 1 rule 2D shape grammar.
Exercise 2: 1 rule 3D shape grammar.
Exercise 3A and 3B: 2 rule 2D shape grammar.
Exercise 4: 2 rule 3D shape grammar.

All the exercises are given after every lesson we've attend during the lecture and we have to finish the exercises given after the lecture. Exercises can be completed by following that have been taught during the lecture and we will just have to apply what have been taught to complete the exercises. Through this, we are able to understand what is the shape grammar and how to apply them to design something new.

Project 2: The Shape Grammar of my Future Home

In this final project, for the first time we will be employing multiple rule shape grammar to produce new architectural designs from their own set of rules. Each of us needs to recall and creatively apply all the knowledge that they have acquired from lectures and exercises to produce a good grammar. The shape grammar will allow students to create multiple design alternatives of the future home and subsequently choose the best design to be further detailed.

The requirement of this project is to have minimum spaces at below in the building.
1. 5 bedrooms
2. 5 bathrooms (including powder room)
3. 2 living rooms (formal living and family area)
4. 2 dining rooms (formal dining and family dining)
5. 2 kitchen (dry and kitchen)
6. Other rooms, i.e.: study, prayer, theatre, music, etc.
7. Supporting spaces, i.e. store room, porches, garages, terraces, etc.

Learning outcome

1. Produce new designs using shape grammar method from the student’s own set of rules.

Through this project, I have more understanding of the shape grammar that it actually can be the design intention or concept by its own in designing a building. Besides that, I've also realize that the proper combination of different shape rules are actually able to produce a building with good plan layout by repeating rules and shape grammar.
