Project 1 Experiencing Construction: Experiencing, documentation and analyzing Construction Process

In a group of 8, our task is to select a minimum of 2 ongoing construction site, the selected sites should be medium rise or low rise buildings with maximum 4-stories building. To identify different types of building elements and its construction process, details and materials. We have to study and record construction of different building elements. Then come out with report of different aspect of the construction site in A3 sized paper and compile them. The report must contain introduction of site, findings and explanation, construction activities, construction elements, plants and machineries.

Objectives

  • To introduce basic principles and procedures of construction process through real life project (experiential learning)
  • To understand the sequence and coordination of construction at site
  • To expose students to construction technology/methods responding to site context
  • To allow student to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology
  • To train students to produce manual sketches, drawings and detailing relating to EXISTING construction

Learning Outcomes

  • Produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawing) and analysis of construction elements
  • Understand and explain construction elements and its components.
  • Understand current construction technology on local construction sites.
  • Explain current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry.

In this project, I've learnt about everything about the construction site such as site safety, machineries, foundation, beam and column, slab and so on. The different method they used to build different types of buildings and also what we should do on site.

Project 2 Integrated Construction Detailing and Drawings

This project is a continuation of the first project-an integrated project where it involves construction detailing solution for final project in design studio. This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of construction and application from prior project. Emphasis in producing related manual construction drawing.

The presentation

Objectives

  • To develop an understanding of the structural elements in construction and its application in the construction industry.
  • To apply suitable construction elements, material and detail/joint solutions suitable for a specific design.
  • To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of build ability.
  • To demonstrate awareness of how buildings are developed in response to practical considerations. To demonstrate certain level of manual drawing and sketching skills.
  • To allow student to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology.
  • To encourage students to produce manual sketches, drawings and detailing relating to construction.

Learning Outcomes

  • Select suitable structural elements for their design project.
  • Design and apply a structural element for their design project.

Through this project, I'm able to know the types of construction that suitable for mt retreat house. Besides, I've also learnt how to choose the suitable material for the building.
