Project 1: Case Study: Identifying Innovative passive design strategies.

In a group of maximum 6, we are required to choose a certified and recognized as green building each from Singapore and Malaysia. The study on the passive design strategies used by the building and able to fullfill the requirement of a green building. Then compile all the information into a book for each building.
The building my group chose are the Solaris in Singapore and Sunway Pinnacle Towel in Malaysia.

Objectives

1. To identify and define the principles of heat transfer in relation to building and people
2. To understand what is thermal comfort and discuss factors relating to thermal comfort
3. To analyze the effect of thermal comfort factors in a person and in a space
4. To be able to criticize design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to MS1525 , UBBL, GBI and Green Mark standards.

Solaris, Singapore

Sunway Pinnacle Towel, Malaysia

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify environmental conditions related to site conditions, climate, etc.
2. Explain the effects of the sun on the thermal performance of buildings
3. Explain the effect of insulation, thermal mass and air movement on thermal performance of buildings.

Through this project, I've more understanding on how to apply the passive design strategies to a building to help the building to operate and minimize the energy used. Besides, I've also learnt the criteria to able to be a cirtified green building. I've also learnt to manage my time for group meetings and site visit to complete this task.
